PE Science. You’ve probably heard of them as they’ve been upping their marketing recently. They sponsor some of the most “real” fitness personalities on the web, including Josh Vogel and Jeff Nippard to name a few.
PEScience stand out in how they sponsor these huge bodybuilders who are very direct, no-nonsense type guys who are big into science-backed workout programming.
This seemingly aligns perfectly with PEScience’s brand which promotes transparency (all products have transparent labelling) and believe in science backed ingredients (always using only ingredients in which studies have shown efficacy).
If you haven’t heard of Josh Vogel or Jeff Nippard you’re in for a treat. Follow them on Youtube for some refreshingly honest, science-based workout/diet/supplementation videos that stands apart from the over-hyped “lifestyle” blogs.
Even if you don’t know the athletes, you’ve probably seen at least one PEScience product, either in your gym being used by someone else or mentioned on a bodybuilding community online. Their Select protein is currently one of the most popular protein blends on the market, which is bringing in a lot of new eyes for their other science-backed products.
We discovered PEScience when researching the best protein blends, that is a protein powder with both fast and slow digesting proteins that wasn’t full of filler like BSN Syntha-6. After exploring we found all of their products were transparently labeled and had healthy dosages of active ingredients, which is another rarity in the supplement world.
For those who don’t know, PEScience has been around for a while. Originally “Physique Enhancing Science” they gained some early on hype because of their ERASE product, which was a very popular over-the-counter aromatase inhibitor.
AI’s are most commonly used by athletes on performance enhancing drugs to prevent estrogen levels from getting out of control, which comes with a whole variety of negative side effects.
The active ingredient in the original PEScience ERASE was Abieta-8, 11, 13-trien-18-oic acid, a powerful aromatase inhibitor, which is a great effective estrogen controller, again, most often used in post cycle therapy for athletes on gear.
The original ERASE has long since been replaced by ERASE Pro+, which is the version that is currently available for purchase and which is one of the very few hormone support supplements with a massive dosing of KSM-66, which is a distilled extract of Ashwagandha Root, which is quite a bit more potent than the whole herb form.
Erase Pro+ is definitely something we would like to try as it’s received pretty rav reviews on all the online marketplaces in which it is sold. Maybe we’ll pick up a bottle to do a little test this spring during our next big cut 😉
But onto things that we have actually tried, multiple times, enough so that we felt the need to write this review:
Products We Love
While we haven’t tried Erase Pro+ we have tried their protein, pre-workout and pump-inducing supplements and we have loved all of them. In fact, PEScience has kind of become our go-to staple supplement when it comes to pre-workout and pump enhancers. Let’s look into each one and how it stands apart from the competition.
Protein, it should be the cornerstone of every diet. If you aren’t eating twenty whole chickens a day, or have a regular day job where you can’t meal prep like an IFBB pro, then a solid protein powder is a must-have for any aspiring bodybuilders.
PEScience’s Select is one of the best protein powders on the market. Why? Well first, because it works. Recent studies have shown that whey + casein protein blends are more effective than just pure whey or pure casein alone, which make up about 90% of the protein powder market.
By blending faster digesting protein (whey) with slower digesting protein (casein), you get an extended release of leucine, which keeps blood leucine levels elevated for longer than if you just took whey alone.
Select utilizes milk protein isolate (MPI) and ultra-pure whey protein concentrate to achieve an optimal blend.
Second, and most importantly for some, the flavors that Select come in are absolutely delicious! If you don’t think flavor is important then you’ve obviously never bought a 5lb tub of cheap whey that tastes like powdered horse shit…because it can be tough to get down. Not so with PEScience. Our personal favorite is the chocolate peanut butter cup and snickerdoodle flavors.
Prolific is PEScience’s flagship pre-workout and one of our new favorites. Like Select, they’ve taken a scientific approach to building the ingredient list as opposed to a proprietary, over-hyped marketing approach.
This means a full 6grams of L-Citrulline which is crazy. L-Citrulline is the more expensive and more effective citrulline variety. Many supplement makers instead use small, like 1-2grams of citrulline malate, which isn’t as effective. You would need a full 12 grams of citrulline malate to equal just 6 grams of L-Citrulline. Yeah, it’s that much more potent.
You also get a efficacious dose of betaine anhydrous at 2.5 grams, you get 1.5 grams of taurine, 250mg of citocoline in the form of Cognizin, 200mg of L-theanine, 100mg of Rhodiola Rosea extract, and 100mg of coffee fruit extract in the form of trademarked NeuroFactor. Oh, and 320mg of “Infinergy” caffeine which is a blend of caffeine anhydrous and dicaffeine malate.
We’r usually not big fans of pre-workouts with massive doses of caffeine because they usually lead to a jittery energy which isn’t exactly our favorite feeling. The Infinergy in Prolific takes a while to kick in, but when it does it is smooth and long lasting and not jittery at all.
Seriously, this is the biggest reason we love Prolific, because it doesn’t shock you and it has the ability to put you into an intense state of focus, which is different from most other pre-workouts.
Sometimes you want to be hit over the head with an intense burning energy, and for those times we use something like GAT’s Nitraflex because it absolutely jolts our system. However for a long, smooth and sustained “focus” type energy, nothing beats Prolific in our opinion, and we’ve tried dozens of pre-workouts. There are many “big upfront hitters”, but few deliver the sustained jitter-free intense focus like Prolific does.
Oh, and the cotton candy flavor is out of this world…like it’s addicting it’s that good…
High Volume is PEScience’s pump support pre-workout that encourages nitric oxide production for long lasting workouts, efficient nutrient shuttling and super veiny pumps of course!
One of the highest rated pump support blends on Bodybuilding.com, High Volume is our go-to for pump-friendly days like chest, arm, and back training.
It contains Vitamin C, a whopping 4,000mg of L-Citrulline (equivalent to 8 grams of Citrulline Malate), Taurine, Glyceral (Hyrdomax) and Ferula Asafoetida root extract, 2,000mg of Arginine Nitrate in the form of trademarked NO3-T, and 1,000mg of Agmatine Sulfate.
This blend makes for a surefire pump in the gym and sustained workouts without the caffeine, which also makes it perfect for late night gym sessions or a great caffeine-free pre-workout if you want to take a break from stimulants to reset your sensitivity.
Try taking a week to two weeks off from all caffeine every 3 months to keep yourself sensitized. It’s also good to practice getting in your “mental zone” without the assistance of stimulants.
Going caffeine free once and a while is a good idea to help re-sensitize your system to the chemical since it loses it’s potency over periods of prolonged use.
We’ve written before about some great caffeine-free BCAA and intraworkouts and think High Volume would make a great pre-workout stack on top.
Skinny Yoked stands for honest reviews, reviewing only things we’ve spent our money on and consumed ourselves. When we love something, like PEScience, we share it. We also try to keep things honest and level to help readers make informed decisions. So, with that said, are there any downsides to PEScience Select, High Volume or Prolific?
Well, not really. Of course price is an issue, as they are priced above many other protein/pre workout supplements. This is because they use very high quality and pure ingredients at dosages recommended in studies that support their effects.
So, by including 4,000 grams of L-Citrulline in High Volume you are getting a quality effect from the chemical that would require 8 full grams of the cheaper Citrulline Malate many other companies use at much lower doses (like 2-3grams tops, which isn’t enough to really do much).
Same goes with Select, it’s a bit more pricy than other pure whey proteins but that’s because of the quality and use of milk protein isolates.
So if you are absolutely broke, then yeah, maybe PEScience will have to wait until you get a better paying job. However if you’re serious about making long-term gains then they’re definitely worth stretching for the purchase.
Finally, and as kind of a side note, we received 2 free samples of the PEScience Ergonine supplement with previous order that tasted absolutely horrible. We kind of suspected as much as we’ve yet to try a “iced tea” flavored supplement that actually tasted like iced tea. This was still a little bit of a surprise since every other flavored supplement we’ve tried from PES was delicious.
Well, if it isn’t evident by now, Skinny Yoked loves PES. We like the dedication to scientific-backed chemicals dosed at amounts that can actually make an impact on your workout and gains in the long term.
The pricing is a little high but as with most things in life, you really are getting what you pay for here. Oh and their protein and pre workout flavors are to die for.
We highly recommend you give PES products a shot the next time you need to stock up on your supps, you won’t regret it.
